1. How does the first exchange between Benvolio and Mercutio foreshadow the action to come?
Because they are talking about hot tempers and how the heat can flame such tempers.
Benvolio says, "The day is hot, the Capulet's abroad,/ And, if we meet, we shall not 'scape a brawl,/ For now, these hot days, is the mad blood stirring."

2. What does Romeo mean when he says to Tybalt,
Tybalt, the reason I have to love thee/ doth much excuse the appertaining rage/ to such a greeting. Villain I am none./ Therefore farewell. I see thou knowest me not.
I do protest I never injured thee,/ but love thee better than thou canst devise/ Till thou shalt know the reason of my love;/ and so, good Capulet, which name I tender/ as dearly as mine own, be satisfied
He means that he loves Tybalt for the reason that he is married to Juliet (Capulet is a name as dear to him as his own name). Tybalt does not know that they are now kinsmen.
3. Mercutios death
a. How does Mercutio use puns until the end?
He says that they will find hime a "grave" man. Grave has two meanings.
P. S. He also jokes around using both understatement "a scratch, a scratch" and hyperbole "worm's meat."

b. How is a plague a both your house prophetic?
a plague is something bad or misfortune and prophetic means foreshadow. something bad is going to happen for both houses because they both loose someone.both families have to deal with the new marriage ad accepting the fact. but that is a hard task for the stubborn families. It is like he cursed them. The play goes from happy (marriage) to sad with his death.

4. Explain why Romeo chooses to fight Tybalt after all. In your opinion, was he justified in killing Tybalt? Why or why not?
Romeo chose to fight Tybalt because he was getting venagance for the death of Mercutio's death. Yes because if the Prince was to see fighting the one fighting would be executed anyway.

I disagree, by this reasoning, he should have let justice and the Prince take care of Tybalt. His impulsivemenss and reactiveness caused his banishment.

5. Why does Romeo say I am fortunes fool?
romeo is only saying this because he just killed tybalt, but her realizes juliet is going to be very mad and upset with him. so basically it's hurting him and more than what he thought. therefore this shows his maturity level and how much he thinks things through.

Romeo realizes AFTER the fact, that he made a huge mistake. He blames it on fate.

6. What role does Benvolio seem to play after each fight?
he tells the prince what happend and tells the exact truth.

7. What is the Princes decision based on the facts?
Romeo was to be banished and to never come back.

8. Compare Romeo's reaction to his banishment with Juliet's response to the same news. Do these reactions reflect the way the characters have behaved thus far in the play? Why or why not?
Although both are very upset, Romeo cries and cried, even attempting to commit suicide (kind of). He is overly emotional and impulsive. This is consistent with his previous actions. Juliet, as usual, is a bit more rational, trying to come up with a plan for the future.

9. The Friar says that Romeo, although banished, has many reasons to be thankful. List these reasons.
He is married to juliet
He is banished, not dead (like the Prince could have sentenced him)
He has a chance to be with Juliet again
We have time to announce marriage and set all to right
10. Review the Friar's plan in Scene iii. List each step of the plan in the left column of the chart. Next to each step, write things that could go wrong.

Steps in the Plan

Things that Could go Wrong

the news could not travel to the people in needs to travel to

somone could be betrayed

11. What, if anything, prevents Juliet from simply joining Romeo in Mantua?
Juliet decided not to go with Romeo because she does not want to raise any suscpision of the two being lovers.

12. How have Lord Capulet's ideas about Juliet's choice of husband changed since Act I?
in act 1 he tells juliet he wants her to marry Paris, but in act III he is forcing her to marry Paris
13. Why do you think the Nurse advises Juliet to forget about Romeo and marry Paris? Does this advise surprise you?
She wants her to forget about romeo because he killed tybalt
14. Juliets relationship with many characters changes in Act III scenes iv and v. Fill in a relationship chart like the one below to see who is a friend and who is an enemy by the end of the act. Write one sentence explaining your reasoning.

End of Act
Romeo

thinks differently of him now because of what he did but still loves him because he is her husband. He is banished.
Lord Capulet

Lady Capulet

juliet is talking about romeo. she wants people to love the night and the darkness as much as she does. she wants people to love the dark because thats the only time she can see the person she loves. this quote supports the on going theme of light and dark through-out the play
