Tragedy--
Serious work of literature that narrates an event.

tragic hero--the main character in a tragedy

Theme-The subject of a talk, a piece of writing, a person's thoughts, or an exhibition; a topic

Conflict- a serious disagreement or argument


personification-when an author uses living traits to describe non-living things


Comic Relief--when there is sad or depressing events the author may use comedy to lighten the mood of the readers.


Simile-a comparison using like or as


Metaphor-a comparison not using like or as


Hyperbole-obvious exaggeration


Flat characters-A character is the representation of a person in a narrative or dramatic work of art


Round characters-A character is the representation of a person in a narrative or dramatic work of art


Dramatic Irony- irony that occurs when the meaning of the situation is understood by the audience but not by the characters in the play.


Aside –A remark by a character in a play intended to be heard by the audience but not by the other characters


Monologue –a long speech by one actor in a play or movie, or as part of a theatrical or broadcast program


Soliloquy –An act of speaking one's thoughts aloud when by oneself or regardless of any hearers, esp. by a character in a play
